Bright unveiled his new theory — that the remnants of Atlantis lie in the North West African country of Mauritania — in a YouTube video published earlier this week. He cites a series of geographical, historical and literary sources which suggest similarities between descriptions of Atlantis, as documented by ancient philosopher Plato, and the Richact Structure in the Sahara. He cites the Mauritanian King Atlas, who ruled for a period in the 16th century, and the mythical King Atlas of Atlantis, said to be the son of Poseidon. The Richat Structure is also made of concentric circles, as Atlantis was described as having by Plato — three filled with water and four more with land. Since being published online last week, the video has received more than a million views on YouTube. Daily Star Online previously reported how an eagle-eyed historian claimed the Lost City might still be visible off the Irish coast. Published historian Matt Sibson may have put an end to the speculation with his amazing discovery — claiming it may still be visible today. By Martin Coulter. Video Loading Video Unavailable.

The lost city of Atlantis is a mythical island mentioned in the work of the ancient Greek philosopher Plato as early as BC. Atlantis is believed by many to have mysteriously vanished after the Atlanteans fell out grace with the Greek pantheon of gods. Despite there being no evidence to suggest Atlantis was something more than a work of fiction, conspiracy theorists have spent decades trying to find it at the bottom of the sea. But a new theory based on satellite scans of North Africa suggests Atlantis could have spent thousands of years out in the open. According to BrightInsight host Jimmy, the city of Atlantis could be tucked away in central Mauritania near the town of Ouadane, in a structure known as the Eye of the Sahara.

The famed lost city of Atlantis may have been found in a rather unlikely place - the Sahara Desert. According to a YouTube clip uploaded earlier this week that's found a massive audience online, the remains of the ringed city Plato spoke of in the fourth century BC can be found in the African country of Mauritania. Instead he proposes a strange formation known as the Richat strucuture, or the 'Eye of the Sahara', is the mythical city's true location.
If you feel challenged by our relatively unconscious society, you may be one of the many dreamers who fantasizes about the lost city of Atlantis. Stretching He described Atlantis as a massive formation of concentric circles, alternating between land and water, similar to how the Eye is seen today. He emphasized that Atlantis was a wealthy, utopian civilization that created the basis for the Athenian democratic model. Plato went on to describe the land as rich in gold, silver, copper, other precious metals, and gemstones. Atlantis was a leader in academia, architecture, agriculture, technology, diversity, and spiritual empowerment, their navy and military were unmatched, and the Atlantean kings ruled with extreme authority.
